                                                Upcoming Program(s)

Old Business –

New Business –

9:30 Show & Tell – Please bring in a project and briefly describe how you made it. Since we learn from each other, this is a great part of our program, so we hope everyone participates. Critiques are optional, just let us know if you are showing something you just learned, and you are proud to present it to the group; or maybe you are showing it because you are looking for suggestions on how to improve or make changes for next time.

Questions & Answers – Do you have a tool you are questioning how to use?  A chunk of wood in the shop you haven’t been able to figure out how to cut up or what to make with it?  A finish that isn’t quite coming out right? Bring it in and let the group brainstorm with ideas.

PROGRAM

10:00 Part 1 – Wooden Curling Rocks: Greg Whitaker and Susan Van Loon Runnoe will be talking about the process of making wooden curling rock trophies for the Superior Curling Club. How they cut the 1×4 segments, glue up the rough blank, and prepare the “rock” for turning.

10:45 Part 2 – Log to Platter: Second in a series, last month Ray Hyde talked about how to prepare a log for turning. Ray brought in his awesome sawbuck and brought a few long slabs he milled.  This month we’ll talk about Blank to ‘First Turn’: Ray will be sharing how to rough out a bowl or platter in this next stage of the turning process.

NOTE ON MEETING PROGRAMS:  Often our programs will continue over more than one meeting – maybe show the starting process in one meeting, the majority of the turning in the next meeting, and finishing in the next meeting.  We began this type of programming in November with Ray’s “LOG to BLANK” demonstration – he will be doing the second part of his demonstration this month, and in January he will do part III.

12:00 Adjourn

MASKS ARE NOW OPTIONAL.  HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL, PLEASE STAY HOME AND GET BETTER. (We are exploring a remote access to meetings via Zoom! Stay tuned for more information!)

REMINDERDecember 16 is our Open Turning/Mentoring Session.  Jon’s Shop is open from 9am to Noon there are three lathes for those that want to try turning something, and help will be provided to those that need a little (or a lot) mentoring. Please let us know if you plan on coming to turn so we can reserve a lathe for you.

Happy Holidays to you and your families. Stay safe, stay warm, and if you are traveling watch out for deer!
