For most or us, winter is our most productive turning time. Coming
into summer, we spend more time outdoors and less time turning. Bring an item
or two that you made this past year. A brief description of the wood and finish
is enough. If you wish, talk a little about how and why you made it. Don’t feel
limited to turned items; any tools or jigs you’ve made are always of interest.
The reason we have a club is to share and learn from each other.
Turn a streptohedron with John Skarja(see photo
at bottom of this email)
We most often think of turning around a single line of symmetry.
John Skarja will demonstrate making a streptohedron.
Steps include making the blank with a paper/glue joint, turning the object,
splitting it at the glue joint, rotating and regluing.
Open shop
After the
program, we’re offering Open Shop session to increase the learning value of our
programs. The idea is that after a turning demo, you will be able to walk over
to a club lathe and try your hand at turning the demo project or work on a new
skill. (You learn what you turn!) Not
to mention that we have excellent club equipment and tools that should be used
by more members more frequently.

2. Will you attend Open Shop after our Wednesday night meetings during the
summer?
Changing to Summer Hours in June
Next Saturday will be our last weekend meeting until September.
Starting in June, we’ll have our Monthly Meeting & Demo on the 2nd
Wednesday of the month and our Sharing Session on the 3rd Wednesday of the
month, both starting at 6 p.m.
