NEW BUSINESS:
· Mentoring/ Open Turning-Dates – you must email or register on the sign-up sheet as all open turning is dependent on how many participants are coming. Please let us know if you have something specific you want to work on, so if you need mentoring help we can try to have the right people available to help youl. Next open turning date is Saturday, March 21.
Cost is free for members. Non-member cost is $10.
SHOW & TELL – As always, we love to see what you’ve been turning. Do you have summer turning projects? Have you turned replacement handles for your tools? Are you being inspired by anything at the AAW symposium? Bring in your turnings and show what you have been up to. When you show your pieces you can ask for critiques of your work, or you can simply show your turnings. We can discuss turning ‘challenges’, talk about best practices, and chat about perplexing pieces of wood you would like suggestions on how to turn or what to turn it into. We would like to have members show one of their turnings and once everyone has a chance, if time permits additional items can be shown.
SAFETY MINUTE – Open Discussion – Best practices, what to do and what not to do.
RAFFLE: If you have an item to donate for the raffle, whether it’s a woodturning book, a piece of wood, a pen or bowl blank, a tool you don’t use, or maybe a turning you have done, we would sincerely appreciate the donation. Depending upon the quantity of donations received your item may be saved for a future month’s raffle.
PROGRAM
******
Jerry Maly will be demonstrating the McNaughton bowl coring system.
Big blanks are challenging to come by and can be very expensive. Shoveling shavings into the trash that would have made a few more bowls is a shame. By using a coring system, you can produce 3-4 additional bowls from a single large wood blank.
Jerry will demonstrate coring to produce several natural edge bowl blanks.
